Social and Emotional Learning Kickoff   October 22, 2015

Over a hundred community members attended BCAC’s Oct. 22nd Social and Emotional Learning Kickoff and truly embraced SEL and the RULER Approach. Attendees received an overview of our Suspension Report: “Lost Class Time: Redefining School Discipline and Improving School Climate” and enjoyed participating in thought-provoking activities and discussions regarding RULER. Parents, educators, law enforcement, and community members departed feeling enthusiastic for what is to come, and many were curious about future trainings that they can get involved in. Unlike other initiatives launched in the schools, Bridgeport’s implementation of RULER is not limited to schools. Instead, RULER is a community-wide and therefore more sustainable initiative. Among those present at our SEL Kickoff were Interim Superintendent Fran Rabinowitz, Senator Gayle Slossberg, Chair of the Education Committee, Lt. Paul Grech, and Joseph Gaudett, Bridgeport Chief of Police.
